Launched in April, 2004, by the parent organization of CIO magazine, the Council is comprised of hundreds of the world's leading chief information officers. This global community is the most trusted, unbiased peer-advisory resource available to the profession, strengthening CIOs' value to their businesses and collectively advancing the profession. There are no vendors, no consultants, no hidden agendas, no exorbitant membership fees. With its collective voice and influential platforms such as CIO and international conferences, Council members shape the future of information technology, its role in business and ultimately its impact on the global economy.

The Council is a dues-based high-touch peer-to-peer advisory organization open to senior IT and business leaders from any country, industry or size of company, with the exception of executives from IT vendor companies, consultancies or other organizations whose primary product or service is sold to CIOs.

The "secret sauce" of the Council is an extensive encrypted database of our members' needs, interests, goals and expertise. With this information, our program managers, who act as peer-advisory concierges dedicated to individual members, arrange peer-to-peer advisory connections, collaborative value-creation engagements, and visibility-raising opportunities to speak or be published.
